“Do Nothing Unless You Must and When You Must Act – Podcast”

We’re about 40% of the way into the book now and we’re still introducing characters!

This section introduces us to the Second Foundation including Stor Gendibal, Delora Delarmi, and First Speaker Quindor Shandass, and shows us that the Speakers’ Table is a raucous affair. We also meet Sura Novi, a Trantorian farmwoman who becomes important to Gendibal.

We’re also treated to an Asenion chain of reasoning describing how Janov figured out the characteristics of Earth.

And we answer some hard-hitting questions like “Are any of the characters actually likable?”

You wouldn’t want to miss that, would you? Join us while we discuss “Speaker,” “Earth,” “Farmer,” and “Farmwoman!” When you must — listen! Let’s go!

  1. I’m curious. How come no mention of the TV show season 3? Apple gave it an official “go” and Alexander El Siddig was cast as Ebling Mis. Ok…maybe the latter is only rumor but it’s out there. Goyer also mentioned that Bayta, Toran and Magnifico would be characters next season so one has to wonder about that vision Gaal was seeing in season 2.

Anyway, great pod cast….keep up the great work.

    1. Season 2 was all about what you see is not what you get and lots of mind games. So there was really no reason to think Gaal’s vision of the Mule would correspond to reality. After all, that same vision had the Mule killing Salvor.

What Gaal saw was the image of the Mule as described by Magnifico in Foundation and Empire. It looks like Goyer has pulled a fast one by actually adhering to the books for a change.

  2. A violation of fictional spy tradecraft trope here, not putting a hyper-relay aboard for Golan to find. Or 2 of them – one easy and one way, way hidden. I guess Asimov is getting around this by giving a test – Golan can’t sense any contact in use. Not convincing. I guess he was trying to do something different than what he’d done earlier.

This story is reminding me of the search for the Nile, or the tv show The Greatest Race.
